Quant has set out to connect networks and blockchains by solving the problem of interoperability by creating the first-of-its-kind blockchain operating system. The structure allows different blockchain networks to bridge their gaps on the Overledger network, which constitutes the ecosystem where the digital economy ecosystem of the future will be created. Validators, or "stakers," secure the network by locking up NRG tokens to validate transactions and maintain network integrity. Core Components: 1. Proof of Stake (PoS): Staked Validation: Validators lock up NRG tokens and earn rewards for confirming transactions based on their staked amount, ensuring active participation in network security. 2. Masternode System: Collateral Requirement: To operate a masternode, users must lock up 1,000 NRG as collateral. Masternodes contribute to transaction validation, security, and governance, playing a central role in network functionality. Governance Participation: Masternodes vote on network proposals, protocol changes, and community initiatives, enabling decentralized decision-making. 3. Self-Funding Treasury: Sustainable Growth: A portion of block rewards funds the treasury, which supports development, marketing, and community projects, ensuring Energi’s growth and development over time The crypto-asset's Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, introduced with The Merge in 2022, replaces mining with validator staking. Validators must stake at least 32 ETH every block a validator is randomly chosen to propose the next block. Once proposed the other validators verify the blocks integrity. The network operates on a slot and epoch system, where a new block is proposed every 12 seconds, and finalization occurs after two epochs (~12.8 minutes) using Casper-FFG. The Beacon Chain coordinates validators, while the fork-choice rule (LMD-GHOST) ensures the chain follows the heaviest accumulated validator votes. Validators earn rewards for proposing and verifying blocks, but face slashing for malicious behavior or inactivity. PoS aims to improve energy efficiency, security, and scalability, with future upgrades like Proto-Danksharding enhancing transaction efficiency.

    Tokens in this category belong to networks designed to connect distinct blockchains. They aim to create an 'internet of blockchains' where disparate networks can communicate and exchange data. The native token is typically utilised for network security, governance, and the facilitation of connections between different chains, which are often referred to as 'parachains' or 'zones'.

    Risks

    Ecosystem Dependency. The value of these tokens is not derived from a single application but from the collective success of the connected ecosystem. If the projects building on the network fail to gain traction, or if developers migrate to a competitor ecosystem, the value of the interoperability token may decline significantly. The network effect is the primary driver of value, and losing it can be fatal.

    Bridge and Relay Risks. The core function of these networks is to bridge assets and data between chains. Cross-chain bridges are technically complex and have historically been prime targets for hackers due to the large liquidity pools they lock. A vulnerability in the central relay chain, the messaging protocol, or the bridge smart contracts could lead to a catastrophic failure across the entire connected network, resulting in the loss of bridged assets.

    Inflationary Tokenomics. To incentivise security and connectivity, these protocols often issue high rewards to stakers to attract capital. This results in a high structural inflation rate for the token supply. If the demand for the token does not outpace the new supply entering the market from staking rewards, the price of the token may suffer chronic downward pressure over time.

    Complexity of Security Models. These networks often employ 'shared security' or 'interchain security' models. These models are highly complex and largely untested at scale over long periods. A failure in the economic design of the shared security model could cascade failures across multiple connected blockchains simultaneously, and this could lead to a systemic collapse of the ecosystem.
