Stellar is an Open-Source Protocol providing a customisable payments infrastructure. The native assets of the Stellar network are called Lumens (XLM). Stellar wants to offer more efficient and cheaper banking services. The Stellar protocol is developed by a nonprofit organisation called the Stellar Development Foundation. It was founded by Jed McCaleb, the creator of eDonkey, Mtgox.com and the Ripple protocol. Stellar XLM are used for transaction fees and as a bridge to facilitate multi-currency transactions.
