It does not run its own consensus layer; instead, it relies on Ethereum mainnet as the settlement layer and its fraud‑proof mechanism to secure transactions and finality. The crypto-asset's Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism, introduced with The Merge in 2022, replaces mining with validator staking.
